true blue

this past sunday evening i spent exploring madison on a photo shoot for GOOD STYLE SHOP. my friend claire styled it all, beautifully and my friend bri modeled, beautifully.

these were my last shots of the night; bri ripping off her black bob wig and exclaiming: "it feels good to be me again." that's been my motto all week since. i'll post some photos from the rest of the shoot soon. 

what would frida wear?

i think we should all throw out the long winded new years resolutions and just have a one word mantra for 2013 - FRIDA.

"it is a fashion exhibit built around those two themes – disability and ethnicity."

i take this as:
1. work with what you've got and make it work for you.
2. love where you come from.
3. and dress for you.

i'm obsessed with nowness videos. this one is such a great one.

bumps in the road

yesterday carson called asking me to come over and help him with a video project. this came as quite a surprise because we had just finished taping a rather important project the previous day.

i grabbed my camera and walked on over. carson was extremely excited and just said "start the camera and let me handle the rest."

what came out of it was this video. i was bawling as soon as i saw the names of dan and chelsea, two of carson's best friends from montana whom we haven't seen in quite some time, not to mention their new baby daughter.

i forget how much i/we have. this summer has been such a transitional period, both of us decided it was time to take our dreams a little more seriously and we decided it was time to start saying goodbye to jobs we both loved. emotional roller coaster doesn't even begin to cover it... then he goes and makes something like this.

carson had recorded "murder in the city" (one of our favorite avett brothers tunes) a while ago and i always forget how much i love his version. we made this video in one take.

pushing through

i've been watching some of st. vincent's tour videos from a couple of years ago. i love what she says about making embarrassing music (replace music with whatever your thing is). if you feel like you're in a not so comfortable place with your art or craft, keep pushing. you'll get there.
alright, if you a fellow wisconsin sport lover, i hope we are in for an amazing weekend.

flying

summer is moving quick; as it always seems to do. i've been trying to balance the worry over
"what's next?" while still enjoying some new freedom.
it's been a summer of transition, that's for certain.

oh hi life

past few weeks (maybe months) have been flying by.
so many changes and thoughts and transitions.
it's all good, but exhausting.
my job (as it is now) ends in 7 days and i for once have nothing
planned next.
into the great wide open so to speak.
i'm sort of loving every second (even in the midst of a meltdown).
this summer is going to be good, can you feel that?

april, you've been good to me

i was looking through april's photos over the weekend and i was just baffled by everything that happened this month.
+ first solo art gallery
+ first sparrow and the sky performance (i sang in front of people, what!?)
+ my first tattoo (from my brother!)
+ live music (trampled by turtles in milwaukee!)
+ playing music
+ recording music
+ lots of good family time
+ lots of good friend time
+ lots of good food
+ lots of cupcakes and sweet potato fries
+ the first bike rides of the year!
+ finding a beautiful apartment to live in
i am blessed, truly. let's hope may continues in this fashion, huh?

                                 

when do we get wise

i read my journal entry from this morning:
"i'm starting to fall back in love with my own life," i wrote.


tomorrow: brother, road trip with carson, dad, a tattoo? (ideas above), live music, sleeping in. not necessarily in that order.
