summer sounds

can't get this song out of my head. a perfect collaboration from two musicians i love dearly, amelia meath from mountain man and nick sanborn from megafaun.

sing baby, sing

over the weekend the boys and i played at LAKESIDE COFFEE HOUSE with some other local madison musicians, blair clark from THE SILLS and THE HIGH WINDOW.

i continued to be blown away by the caliber of musician here in madison - blair plays passionate and clever songs that makes me think hes a relative of tom waits. and the high window makes me want to curl up next to a fire with some whiskey and reflect on my past, while being hopeful of the future.

i'm very happy to be out singing, to be meeting talented folks and playing with talented folks. i get asked a lot about what i want to do with music and what my end goal is and i'm happy just to be doing it, honestly. i find "my sound" a little more each time i pick up the guitar and open my mouth and if someone finds joy in that somewhere, that's good enough for me.

how is the new year feeling? i feel lucky, my birthday is at the beginning half of january so i truly consider that day my jumping off point. the first until the 12th is my warm up. i need it, that's for certain.

carson begins his new job tomorrow and he's having those new job feelings. i'm going to be sending lots of love his way all monday long. you know, the way you do when you're in love and you can calm someone even miles away.

enough gush. how about that video? it's pretty and as perfect as a rainy car ride should be.

i've been watching some of st. vincent's tour videos from a couple of years ago. i love what she says about making embarrassing music (replace music with whatever your thing is). if you feel like you're in a not so comfortable place with your art or craft, keep pushing. you'll get there.

come on march

i think spring is coming, i smell hints of it in the air. i think my body is craving the sun because i stopped off at olbrich botanical gardens on the way home from work and i went and did some hot yoga later in the night. both felt so good - why don't i do those things more? it was wonderful to see some green again.

i also got to dance away some winter blues last night at girltalk! such a blast - in more ways then one...
